What is Mobile Number Portability (MNP)?
Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another. E.g. If you are using Airtel, you can switch to some other network like Vodafone at very nominal cost.

Why to use MNP?
If you are getting better calling schemes with other telephone providers, you may be interested in switching your provider.

When and cost?
The date decided is 20th Jan 2011 for fee of 19 INR only.  You may need some documents and forms need to be submitted.

What points to be taken care of?
  • Money Vs Hassle of redistributing the number.
  • Signal strength in the Local and  Roaming networks
  • Call center services in  case of issues.
  • Dues must be clear from the current provider.
